Tour d'Azerbaidjan 2014

The road race can rightly be considered the hallmark of the country! Tour d’Azerbaidjan 2014 will be held on May 7-11. It is the first time that the race will be ranked as 2.1 level event within UCI Europe Tour.

The cycling race growing popularity was largely boosted by the serious organizational activity by the Azerbaijan Cycling Federation, the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the National Olympic Committee held with the assistance of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) in 2013. Baku Synergy Cycling Project, which is among the favorites of the Tour, is also an important contributor in promoting cycling in Azerbaijan.

The first stage starts in Baku and finishes in 154 km in Sumqayit. This is a good chance for sprinters where they can decide the fate of the race on the last five laps.

The second stage is repeated for the third year and consists of 187km distance from Baku to Ismayilly. Hilly route and strong wind.

The third stage is 180 km long running from Qabala in Sheki then back to Qabala. Stones on a site near the medieval Caravanserai can become a serious test for the riders.

The fourth stage is not very long, only 115 kilometers from Qabala to Pirqulu, but it features three climbs. A chance to win for mountain riders.

The fifth stage will be held in Baku: 120 km loop, then six laps of 13.6 km each, including sections of the cobblestones in the old town. This stage is a test of the route developed for the 2015European Games.

Tour d'Azerbaidjan will be broadcasted by Eurosport channel. Half-hour race diaries and hour and a half broadcast of the final stage will go on the air.

In 2014, the total distance to be covered by riders will be 838 kilometers. We offer you an opportunity to learn details of the route of Tour d'Azerbaidjan 2014.
